It is unfortunate, but true, that Windows 95 came filled with many bugs

Fortunately many can be corrected


INSTALLING THE UPDATES

Those Updates

Most links to Updates & Big Fixes for Windows 95 still apply at this time. As stated previously, Microsoft has implemented an online download facility.

If any links fail, then try, online, at Microsoft Download Wizard


The order of installation is sometimes important.
To install, simply Double-click on the download file.
Always reboot when requested by Windows.

Having gone to the trouble of downloading the updates, be very sure you save them to a safe area - many updates are necessary. For storage it is convenient to mark (rename) each update according to its order of installation e.g. 111setup.exe, 112oleupd.exe, 113krnlupd.exe, .....

The following graphical markers will remind readers which updates apply to their own Windows version.Do not use any of the system updates with the incorrect version of Windows. Fortunately more recent update will not permit you to do so.

95a = ONLY for original 95 (4.00.0950) & OSR1 (4.00.0950a)
Get it = ONLY for 95b and 95c (4.00.0950b / c) [OSR2.0 - 2.5]
Get it = for 95a, 95b & 95c [ OSR1 & OSR2-2.5 ]

Install in this order:
 SETUP.EXE SP1 (1,235KB). Updates 1-10 Original 95 ONLY
        Converts original 95 to 95a (OSR1) Not for 95a or 95b.

Get it  OLEUPD.EXE (506952 bytes, 08/27/97) For 95a, 95b, 95c
        Corrects some file problems. Skip, if using IE 4.x.

Get it  KRNLUPD.EXE (329KB 07/29/97) For 95a
        Updated Kernel32.dll (also required by DUN12 update)

Get it  IOSUPD.EXE (174672 bytes, 08/27/97) For 95a, 95b, 95c
        SAME IDE Channel N CD-ROM & Hard Disks

Get it  DSKTSUPD.EXE (150624 bytes, 08/27/97) For 95a
        Addresses a potential data-loss issue with large EIDE drives

       Updated Backup.exe corrects problems in the original version

       Enhanced Encryption for Passwords

Get it RPCRTUPD.EXE (273472 bytes, 08/27/97) For 95a, 95b, 95c
       Update to the remote Procedure Call DLL Update

Get it PINGUPD.EXE (296456 bytes, 07/16/97) For 95a, 95b, 95c
       Ping Tool. Fixes bug. Skip if going to use Winsock2

       Update to Enhance Password Security. OSR 2 and 2.1 only.

       Update to Enhance Password Security

Get it DLC32UPD.EXE (212640 bytes, 07/16/97) For 95a, 95b, 95c
       Update for the MSDLC32 Protocol (32-bit Data Link Control)

          Skip if you prefer to use DUN12. DUN13 may still be buggy.
